Director X learned on set as an assistant before shooting anything of his own.
Julien Christian Lutz — Director X — came out of Toronto with no industry pipeline and got his education working around Hype Williams and other video directors.
Being in the room, unpaid or barely paid, was the only way to learn a craft that had no school, no showreel platform and no way to be seen from another city.
He went on to shape the visual language of a generation of music video.
